I remember when I moved into my first apartment (which wasn’t yesterday!) I was so excited to make it feel like me.
I wanted that cozy, put-together vibe that I saw in magazines.
Like the rooms you see on Pinterest nowadays where everything just works, but it still feels warm and lived-in.
Back then I didn’t have much of a budget, so I got creative with simple and cheap DIY projects that mad emy bedroom feel high-end without the high-end price tag.
Now, after all these years, I still have that itch to DIY everything!
So if you’re looking to give your room that same kind of high-end feel, I’ve got some ideas I know you’re going to love!
DIY Butterfly Wall Art

One of my favorite projects I saw was adding butterflies to a bedroom wall.
Butterflies = happy and that was enough for me.
To make this DIY wall project, cut out butterfly shapes from sturdy cardstock, spray paint them silver, and arranged them above your bed.
Don’t they like high-end metal decor!
If you are in an apartment, use sticky tack so it won’t ruin the walls.
But you can also get those removable strips that pull off super easy without ruining paint.
This is such a simple DIY that will make you smile.
My Favorite DIY Room Decor Ideas
Here are some more decor ideas that are super simple and beautiful. I wish I could do them all!
Floating Frame Gallery Wall
Floating frames are easy to make and look high-end in your place (like you put some actual effort into decorating!).
Even if you use budget prints or print your own (or make your own art), it definitely adds a high-end touch to any wall.
A lot of people do their gallery walls behind their couch, but you can always do one above a dresser in your bedroom.
You can hang the art in a neat grid or a loose cluster for an airy and modern feel in your room.
3D Butterfly Mirror Accent

This is such a simple DIY upgrade that looks like it came from Anthropologie!
Plus, if you like butterflies like I do, this would’ve looked nice in my apartment bedroom (like I thought about decorating my bedroom!).
Take a framed mirror you own or find a cheap one at a thrift store and add a few metallic butterflies around the edge.
If you can’t find little butterflies, cut some out of heavy cardstock, glue them on, and then give the entire thing (minus the mirror) a coat of spray paint in whatever color you want.
It has such a whimsical and luxe look you can use in your bedroom!
If butterflies aren’t your thing, I’ve seen mirror frames from glass rocks, beach wood and faux flowers!
DIY Upholstered Headboard

If you really want a cozy feel in your bedroom, you can always make a super easy upholstered headboard.
It will make layering your bed feel regal and professional!
Just take a piece of plywood, some foam, and a soft fabric you like (like linen or velvet).
If I was going to make a headboard, I’d go for a warm neutral fabric to keep things calm and cozy.
But you can totally go bold if that’s more your style!
Either way, it will definitely make your bed look like it belongs in a boutique hotel.
Shadow Box Display
Shadow boxes are another easy DIY room decor idea that instantly transforms your bedroom that may lean into college dormness….
It shows your personality since you can use whatever fits your style and decor when making a shadow box.
You can pin dried flowers, fake flowers, or photos of loved ones.
It’s a simple way to give your wall a gallery look with a high-end vibe.
Gold Leaf Accent Vases

If you want something to look designer for cheap, just use some gold leaf on a glass vase and call it a day!
You can cover the whole thing or just the bottom half for a golden ombre look.
Pop in a few sprigs of eucalyptus or pampas grass and you have a centerpiece for your dresser or nightstand that looks like it came right out of a decor magazine.
Linen Bed Scarf

A linen bed scarf is one of those small touches that makes your bed look glamorous!
Just fold a long piece of linen (or any soft textured material you love) and drape it across the foot of your bed.
Super simple but it adds a cozy layered look that makes the whole room feel more put together.
I’d go with neutral tones or anything with a simple pattern for an airy vibe but, again, you can totally switch it up if you love bold, rich colors.
Marble Contact Paper Dresser Makeover

Just like the mirror and vase I mentioned above, sometimes all you need to do is spruce up something you already have!
If you have an old dresser or nightstand, just cover the top with marble contact paper.
You can also swap out the handles and pulls for ones that are sleek metallic.
Now you have a piece of furniture for your bedroom that looks way more expensive than it is!
Decorative Book Stack with Personalized Covers

Stacking a few books is an easy way to add some height and style to a shelf, nightstand or dresser.
But you can also customize the covers to take it up a notch!
Wrap old books in something like neutral-toned craft paper or linen fabric.
You can get really crafty with stamping or hand lettering to make them decorative and unique.
Luxe Lamp Makeover
Give an old lamp a high-end look with a quick makeover.
You can easily swap out the lampshade for a frosted or milk glass globe, which adds a really cool sculptural vibe.
And if the base feels boring, you can always change it with a coat of matte spray paint.
You’ll end up with a sleeker looking lamp that gives off a warm, cozy glow.
Fabric-Wrapped Storage Boxes

This idea makes your bedroom look more luxurious and gives you more storage space!
Take plain storage boxes (or plain cardboard boxes) and wrap them in fabric like linen, canvas, or even a soft boucle.
Fold the edges neatly for a clean look and secure them with hot glue.
You can stack them on shelves or in the corner.
