Let’s turn that messy energy into clean vibes ASAP.
Declutter Your Home Room by Room
It’s hard to relax when every room feels like impeding doom. I mean when my house is messy, my mind is messy.
But, there’s good news.
Tackling it room by room makes it way easier to manage. You can tackle one room a day or do one room in the morning and another in the afternoon.
It’s all up to you and your goal of tackling the clutter in a weekend, in one week or over a month.
So, let’s get your space back on track!
Living Room

My living room used to stress me out—stuff everywhere, random cords, and things that didn’t even belong there (hello football trophy my son needs to put in his room).
It was impossible to relax.
But once I figured out a few simple decluttering tricks, everything changed.
Now, it’s my favorite cozy spot, and I’m here to help you do the same!
1. Use the ‘One In, One Out’ Rule
For every new item you bring into your living room, remove an old one. This practice helps maintain balance and prevents accumulation of unnecessary items.
So, anytime you bring in something new—like that cute throw pillow you had to have—something old has to go.
It could be that random blanket you never use or the vase that’s collecting dust.
This little habit keeps your space from turning into a clutter zone and makes you think twice before adding more stuff.
Balance = maintained, vibes = upgraded.
2. Use a Rolling Cart for Temporary Storage
Use a rolling cart to collect items that don’t belong in the living room. At the end of the day, return these items to their proper places, keeping your space tidy without multiple trips.
It’s great for kids’ toys, rogue coffee mugs, or that sweatshirt someone left behind.
Instead of running back and forth all day putting things away, toss it all in the cart.
At the end of the day, wheel it around and return everything to its proper spot.
Boom—your living room stays clean, and you save yourself from 500 trips.
3. Define Zones for Different Activities
Create specific areas in your living room for activities like reading, watching TV, or working. This organization helps keep items contained within their designated spaces, reducing overall clutter
So this might look like:
Set up a TV zone with all the remotes, consoles, and cords neatly stored in one spot.
Add a small desk or side table to keep your laptop and notebooks from taking over the couch.
Keeping everything in its zone not only makes your space functional but also helps you stay organized without the chaos.
4. Adopt the ‘1-3-5’ Rule
Tackle decluttering by addressing one big task, three medium tasks, and five small tasks. This method makes the process more manageable and less overwhelming.
Here’s how it works: pick one big task (like organizing your bookshelf), three medium tasks (think clearing off the coffee table, sorting through your throw blankets, or tidying the TV console), and five small tasks (like throwing out old magazines, putting away stray mugs, or fluffing up your pillows).
Breaking it down like this keeps you focused and makes the whole thing way less overwhelming.
Plus, checking off those tasks feels so satisfying
5. Maximize Vertical Space
Install adjustable shelves or wall-mounted organizers to utilize vertical space for storage. This approach frees up floor space and keeps items off surfaces, contributing to a cleaner look.
Use shelves for books, plants, or decorative storage baskets, and mount organizers for smaller things like remotes or chargers.
This keeps your floors clear and your surfaces clutter-free, giving your space a clean, airy vibe.
Plus, it makes you look like you’ve got your life totally together.

6. File Fold Your Clothes
Folding your clothing in a “file fold” so they can stack vertically in your drawer is a Marie Kondo-favorite organizing trick—and a way to ensure that all your t-shirts or workout gear see the light of day.
This way, you can see everything at a glance, no more forgetting about that cute shirt you swore you lost.
Plus, it saves so much space and keeps your drawers looking chef’s kiss organized. Perfect for t-shirts, workout gear, or even jeans.
Try it, and thank me later!
7. Establish Daily Habits to Maintain Tidiness
Develop simple daily habits, such as making your bed each morning and putting items back in their designated spots, to prevent clutter from accumulating.
Start with the basics: make your bed every morning.
It takes less than a minute, and it instantly makes your room feel pulled together.
Then, focus on putting things back where they belong—dirty clothes in the hamper, shoes on the rack, and nightstand clutter back in drawers or organizers.
Consistent maintenance is key to keeping your bedroom organized over time.
8. Set Clear Intentions and Goals
Before starting your decluttering process, set clear goals for how you want your bedroom to look and function.
Ask yourself: How do you want your bedroom to feel?
Maybe you’re craving a calming retreat for better sleep, or you need it to double as a workspace.
Visualize your ideal setup and write down what you want to achieve, like clearing off surfaces, creating more floor space, or organizing your closet.
This focus will help you stay motivated and ensure that your efforts align with your desired outcome.
9. The 5-Minute Clean-Up Challenge
Turn decluttering into a fun, quick challenge.
Set a timer for 5 minutes and focus on putting away anything that’s out of place like clothes on the floor, random cups, or that stack of papers on your nightstand.
You’ll be surprised how much you can get done in such a short time.
Bonus points if you make it a daily habit!
10. Over-the-Door Organizers for Hidden Storage
Use over-the-door organizers to store shoes, accessories, or even small items like chargers and cables.
These hidden storage hacks keep your bedroom tidy without taking up any floor or drawer space.
Perfect for keeping clutter off your surfaces!
Kitchen

11. Implement the FIFO Method
Adopt the “First In, First Out” approach by placing newer food items behind older ones in your pantry and fridge.
This will help you use up older products first, reducing waste and keeping your kitchen organized.
12. Utilize Lazy Susans
Place a Lazy Susan in your refrigerator or pantry to make items easy to see and access and keep things organized.
This simple addition can prevent items from getting lost at the back and helps maintain order.
And well, kids love turning that Lazy Susan!
13. Declutter Your Pots and Pans Cabinet
The pots and pans cabinet often becomes chaotic due to bulky items.
Regularly declutter this space by removing unused or damaged cookware, and consider installing organizers to keep lids and pans neatly arranged.
14. Organize Your Spice Cabinet
I don’t know about you but if I don’t keep on top if it, my spices will accumulate over time, leading to clutter and expired products.
Periodically sort through your spice cabinet, discarding expired items, and arrange the remaining spices in a way that makes them easily visible and accessible.
I try to do this every few months!
15. Clear Your Countertops
Kitchen countertops often become ground zero for clutter.
Start by tucking away any appliances that you don’t use every day, such as air fryers and standing mixers.
Keeping countertops clear not only makes your kitchen look cleaner but also provides more space for meal preparation.
Bathroom

16. Declutter Your Shower Products
Take a quick inventory of your shower and ditch any empty bottles or products you never use.
Stick to the essentials, like your favorite shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, to keep your shower space clean and clutter-free
17. Use Clear Storage Containers
Store items like cotton balls, swabs, and bath salts in clear containers.
This not only keeps essentials accessible but also adds a clean, cohesive look to your bathroom decor.
18. Regularly Dispose of Expired Products
Make it a habit to check and discard expired beauty and health products.
I try to to do this weekly with my family.
This prevents clutter buildup and ensures you’re only using items that are safe and effective.
19. Incorporate Air-Purifying Plants
Add small, air-purifying plants to your bathroom to improve air quality and reduce odors.
Plants like aloe vera or peace lilies thrive in humid environments and add a touch of nature to your space.
20. Use Stackable Bins Under the Sink
Maximize the space under your bathroom sink with stackable bins or drawers.
Use them to store cleaning supplies, extra toiletries, or hair tools, keeping everything neat and easy to grab without creating a mess.
Entryway

21. Install a Shoe Storage Bench
A shoe storage bench like this farmhouse one provides a dedicated spot for footwear, reducing clutter and offering a convenient place to sit while putting on shoes.
This dual-purpose furniture keeps your entryway neat and functional
22. Keep a Trash Bin or Decorative Basket Handy
Have a small trash bin or stylish basket near the entrance to immediately dispose of junk mail and unnecessary items as you walk in.
This practice prevents clutter from accumulating in your entryway.
23. Designate a ‘Drop Zone’
Set up a specific area in your entryway for essentials like keys, mail, and bags.
Using trays or wall-mounted organizers helps keep these items orderly and easily accessible, streamlining your daily routine
24. Use Wall Hooks for Everyday Items
Install stylish wall hooks or a pegboard to hang jackets, bags, and hats.
This keeps frequently used items off the floor and within easy reach, while adding a functional decor element to your entryway.
25. Add a Mail Sorter or Wall File Organizer
Mount a mail sorter or wall file organizer to separate incoming mail, bills, and flyers.
This helps avoid piles of paper cluttering your entryway and keeps important items in one easy-to-find spot.
Laundry Room

26. Toss Unnecessary Items
Start by discarding broken hangers, expired cleaning products, and nearly empty detergent bottles.
Removing these items frees up space and reduces clutter.
27. Install Wall-Mounted Drying Racks
Save floor space by using wall-mounted drying racks. They can be folded away when not in use, keeping the area neat and functional.
28. Label Shelves and Bins
Clearly label storage areas for different items, such as “cleaning supplies,” “detergents,” and “linens.”
This system makes it easy for everyone in the household to maintain order.
29. Create a Folding Station
Dedicate a counter or install a wall-mounted table as a folding station.
Having a specific area for folding clothes prevents clean laundry from piling up elsewhere
30. Use Family Baskets for Sorting
Place labeled baskets or bins on shelves or the floor for sorting laundry by family members.
It’s a great way to teach your kids chores too!
This keeps dirty laundry organized and makes wash day quicker and less chaotic.
31. Bonus: Magnetic Storage for the Washer/Dryer
Attach magnetic storage baskets or hooks to the side of your washer or dryer.
Use them to hold frequently used items like dryer sheets or a lint brush.
It’s a great way to utilize unused space and keep essentials within reach!
