The No-Fuss Camping Breakfast That’s Easy, Delicious & Ready in Minutes

Even though there’s STILL snow on the ground where I live, I’m already dreaming about summer camping trips with my family.

We’ll chill by the fire, jet ski on the lake and obviously stuff our faces with the best camping breakfast ever!

I can’t wait to try this this camping food idea for sure!

This breakfast isn’t complicated to make while deep in the woods. That’s why it’s a no-fuss camping breakfast that’s easy, delicious and ready in minutes…and one I HAVE to try.

You can’t beat that!

And trust me, this is definately a simple, yummy food that will fuel your family through hikes, swimming and more.

Since I’m always looking for hacks, tips and ideas (on Pinterest and TikTok), I’ll also share 25 of my wish list of camping breakfast ideas that will probably be a hit with my family.

So move over camping lunches, let’s try this camping breakfast.

Easy Camping Breakfast: Foil Packet French Toast

Looking at this recipe over, I can’t believe how simple it is to make!

These camping french toast bits are crispy, buttery and loaded with cinnamon.

What’s great is you can make this meal ahead.

The night before, I will cut the bread and get the cinnamon ready so all I have to do is put it together over the grill.

  • Thick bread slices (brioche or Texas toast = elite choice)
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (white is fine also)
  • Butter (lots of it, obviously)
  • 1/2 cup berries (optional)
  • Maple syrup (for drizzling)
  • Foil

Get your fire going (or grill to 350°F). Grab your pre-cut bread pieces, or take your loaf of bread and cut it into small squares.

If you’re lazy (like I am) just cut the bread into fingers! It’s all the same in your mouth!

In a bowl, whisk the eggs and brown sugar until smooth. Get your foil and slather it with butter and then arrange your bread (or fingers).

Pour your egg mixture and make sure everything is soaked and then add your berries (optional).

Fold your foil into a tight packet so nothing is leaking and place it over the fire or grill.

Cook for about 10-15 minutes but halfway through flip your packet over.

Between 10-15 minutes carefully open the packet (don’t get burned by the steam!) and drizzle some maple syrup and serve.

I know, it’s super easy and your kids can help you too!

My Family’s Favorite Camping Breakfast Ideas

I’m sure you’ll be camping for more than one day, so here are some go-to camping breakfast ideas that will start your days off right.

Camping Breakfast Skillet

My kids aren’t HUGE fans of scrambled eggs, but if I use less eggs and a bunch MORE potatoes, they’ll not second guess it and may actually eat it (and enjoy it too).

This is definately a hearty camping breakfast that’s packed with flavor and made in only ONE pan….and that means zero cleanup!

It’s filled with crispy potatoes, sausage (optional…my kids don’t like sausage…boohoo), cheesy scrambled eggs and green veggies like green pepper and green onions (also optional if you have picky eaters like I do).

  • 2 tbsp oil, divided
  • ½ lb Yukon gold potatoes, cut into ¼”-½” cubes
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¼ lb sausage (about 6 links – optional)
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Chopped green onions and ground black pepper (optional)

In a hot skillet over medium heat, add 1 tbsp of oil and toss in your diced potatoes to crisp them up.

Stir the potatoes for 10-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.

Add the remaining oil and toss in the bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes and then add your onion and sea salt.

Cook it all for an additional 5 minutes (until your onions are canalized a bit) and then add your sausage and let it brown.

In a bowl beat your eggs and in your skilled push everything to the side. Add oil to the center of your skillet and pour the scrambled eggs. Add your cheese. Scramble this until ready and then fold everything together.

Feel free to top it with green onions, black pepper and even hot sauce!

Banana Bread Pancakes

If your children gobble up banana bread (like mine to) then try these banana bread pancakes.

They’re fluffy and full of banana goodness.

These pancakes can also be prepped ahead, making mornings less rushed.

  • 3 bananas (the riper, the better)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ cup whole milk (plus extra if needed)
  • 2 cups flour
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (toasted in a dry skillet if you’re feeling fancy)
  • Butter, or coconut oil for cooking

To make ahead, mix your flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, baking powder and salt in a ziploc bad. This cuts out having to bring measuring cups and spoons.

Start with mashing two bananas in a bowl and in another bowl whisk your eggs and milk. Combine and stir in your dry ingredients.

If you find that your batter is too thick, add more milk. Heat up your skillet over medium heat, melt some butter and pour around 1/3 cup of batter into the pan,

Before you flip your pancakes, add some chopped walnuts on top. It takes about 3 minutes before you should flip over your pancakes.

Cook until golden and repeat! Serve with maple syrup and chopped up bananas!

Apple Maple Sausage Breakfast Sandwiches

The thing that will make your family come back for more of these sandwiches is the apple!

The warm filling looks soo soo good. Plus, there’s not a lot of cleanup either! Win-win!

What I like about this breakfast is the homemade feel. You get to make your own sausage!

For the sausage patties:
  • 1 apple, coarsely grated
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tsp dried sage
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • ¼ tsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon
For the sandwiches:
  • 8 Swiss cheese slices
  • 8 English muffins
  • 8 eggs
  • Butter, for serving

Before you head to camp, make sure to grate the apple, soak it in lemon juice and water for 5 minutes and then drain out excess liquid.

Mix that with your ground pork, maple syrup and all the spices until combined and then shape it into 8 thin patties (about 1/4 inch thick and 4 inches wide).

To meal prep this, use parchment to separate patties and store them in an airtight container in the fridge (or freeze for later).

At camp, heat up your griddle and cook the sausage patties for 2-3 minutes per side or until browned and fully cooked.

While they are cooking, fry your eggs however everyone likes and toast your English muffins.

To assemble, butter the muffins, add a sausage patty, top it with egg and finish with some cheese.

If you prefer runny eggs, this can be a bit messy, but it’s a good messy!

Dutch Oven Cinnamon Rolls

Ooey and gooey and oh-so-delicous!

These fresh cinnamon rolls are about 1,000 times better at camp too!

For the dough:
  • 2 ½ cups flour (345g)
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar (50g)
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg
For the filling:
  • 4 tbsp butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup packed brown sugar (70g)
  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 cardamom pods, crushed (optional but highly recommended)
For the icing glaze:
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp melted butter

At home mix your flour, sugar, yeast, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.

Go ahead and warm the milk and butter until melted and then add it to your dry ingredients. Next add your egg and mix for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth.

Now rest your dough in a oiled bowl and cover for about 10 minutes.

For the filling, crush the cardamoom (if you’re using it, I do!) and mix it with the brown sugar and cinnamon.

Then, roll out the dough into a 12″x8″ rectangle, spread your butter and sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mix all over.

Roll it up into a tight cylinder and slice 8-10 rolls using some dental floss.

I know….sounds weird but it’s a clean process and easier too.

Once you stack the rolls in a parchment-lined container, you can work on the glaze.

Mix up the glaze and store it and everything else in a cooler for some easy campfire baking.

When you’re at camp and it’s breakfast time, arrange the cinnamon rolls in a 4-qt Dutch oven and them rise while you start the fire.

Once the coals are ready, set around 7 underneath and 16 on the lid and bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden.

When done, drizzle them with icing and serve!

Avocado Toast Breakfast Sandwich

For something lighter and easier to travel with, this bacon and egg avocado toast sandwich fits the bill.

Plus, it’s seriously simply and easy to make over the fire and even your tweens and teens can make it themselves (giving your a few extra minutes of shut eye).

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices bacon, cut in half
  • 2 slices bread
  • 1 egg
  • 1 avocado
  • Salt + pepper

To make, start by heating a cast iron skillet over the fire or your camp stove and cook your bacon over medium-low heat.

Once done, place the bacon on a paper-towel lined plate and toast your bread in the bacon grease for more flavor.

Once the bread is toasted to your liking, set it aside. Check to see if the skillet needs more fat, otherwise, cook your egg how you and your family like.

While cooking, mash your avocado onto each slice of toast and then layer your bacon and top it with your egg. Salt and pepper and add the other slice of toast.

It’s time to eat!

Campfire Breakfast Pizza

Okay –

If you want a sort of “junky” breakfast that is still hearty and filling, then try this campfire pizza.

It’s loaded with tater tots, sausage, cheese and egg.

  • 1 package breakfast sausage
  • ½ bag crispy potato rounds (or tater tots)
  • 6 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded Colby Jack cheese

To make this over your campfire, make sure there’s a nice bed of coals. While that’s happening, brown the sausage patties in a cast iron skillet and flip them every few minutes to evenly cook.

Once finished, remove them and then start lining your skillet with tater tots, making sure they cover the bottom and form a sort of crust like a pizza.

Then place the cooked sausage patties over the tater tots. Next, whisk together the eggs, milk and shredded cheese.

Pour the mixture over the sausage patties and tater tots.

With everything in one pan, place the iron skillet on a grate above the coals (or you can place them right on top of the coals) and then cover with the cast iron lid.

Bake for 25-40 minutes, depending on how hot the coals are, so check occasionally to make sure it’s cooking evenly.

Once it’s golden and bubbly, remove your pan and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve!

Croissant Breakfast Sandwich

Now who doesn’t like a good croissanwich?

My children LIVE off of these all year round so it just makes sense to bring them for camping!

Flaky and butter croissants and stuffed with eggs, cheese and ham (or turkey or chicken or sausage…whatever you like).

These are and will always be a hit in my home.

  • 6 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 4 large butter croissants
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 4 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 6 oz ham or turkey, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices cheddar cheese

To make, whisk together the eggs and milk in a bowl and also head butter in your skillet over medium heat.

Scramble the eggs and set aside. Next, slice your croissant in half and spread mayo on one side and Dijon mustard (if you like that sort of thing…which I sometimes do) on the other side.

Next, layer on the scrambled eggs, ham (or other meat) and a slice of cheddar cheese.

To warm up, just wrap each sandwhich in foil and toss them on a grate over the fire (or campfire stove) for around 15-20 minutes. Make sure to flip the foil over half way through.

These are easy to make at home and come breakfast time, just put them on the grate to warm up!

Banana Oatmeal Breakfast Cookies

Who doesn’t want COOKIES for their camping breakfast?

These are a hit for breakfast, snacks and and after dinner dessert too (albeit healthy!).

What’s great about these cookies is there’s no added sugar as the bananas act as the sweetener (so the ripest bananas can make all the difference).

It’s best to pre-make these at home and store them in an air tight container for camp!

  • 3 very ripe bananas
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup dried fruit or chocolate chips
  • ⅓ cup vanilla Greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg

Start by preheating your oven to 350F (or set up your campfire with a Dutch oven).

In a large bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. In another bowl, which the egg and yogurt together, then stir that into the mashed bananas.

In a new bowl (or if you are short on bowls, just rinse and reuse!), mix the oats, cinnamon, and chocolate chips (or dried fruit).

Once combined, let the dough chill for 15 minutes in the fridge.

When ready, divide the dough into 12 cookies and press them flat on a baking sheet that’s lined with parchment.

Pop them into the oven for 20 minutes or until the middle is set and let them cool for 10 minutes before moving them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Campfire Southwest Scrambled Eggs

These campfire eggs have a little spice to them, but omit if your family doesn’t like the heat.

My daughter loves eggs and my son not so much, but I work hard at making them more healthy by topping them with fresh veggies (so my son really doesn’t take the egg).

  • Olive oil
  • ⅓ cup diced red onions
  • 1 diced bell pepper
  • ½ jalapeño, diced
  • 1 cup frozen Southern potato hash, thawed
  • ½ can corn
  • 6 eggs
  • Salt and pepper
  • ½ cup quartered cherry tomatoes
  • Shredded cheese (optional but highly recommended)
  • Fresh chives (optional)

Get your campfire going and heat your cast-iron skillet over medium flames.

Once hot, drizzle oil and sauté the onions, bell pepper and jalapeño until the onions are translucent and everything else is soft.

Next, add the potatoes and corn and cook for 4-5 minutes until the potatoes are crispy.

Once all cooked, push the veggies to one site and create an open space in the middle. Beat your eggs and add salt and pepper before adding it to your skillet.

Scramble the eggs and then mix in the veggies for the final cook. When done, top with cherry tomotoes, chives and a sprinkle of cheese.

You can eat as is or dump it into a tortilla for a tasty breakfast burrito.

More Favorite Camping Breakfasts to Try this Season

My family doesn’t like to eat the same thing over and over again…especially when camping.

So, when planning our camping trip, I’ll try to group my meals together, i.e. those that have similar ingredients, and work hard at making each meal look and taste difference.

To help you out by not getting into a rut with camping breakfasts, here are more ideas.

Blueberry Loaf

Another great camping food idea your entire family will enjoy! To make, mix the dry ingredients flour, sugar, baking powder, and a pinch of salt in a resealable bag to take to camp.

At camp, whisk the eggs with milk, butter and a splash of vanilla (optional). Add the dry ingredients and then fold in the blueberries.

Pour your dough into a greased, parchment-lined Dutch oven, cover it and bake over hot coals for 45-60 minutes.

Once done, let it sit and cool before serving. It’s best with butter!

Omelet in a Bag

Kids just love anything in a bag, and breakfasts are no exception. Use a resealable bag, to cracks and add diced veggies, ham or bacon.

Seal the bag and squish everything so the eggs mix into the veggies and meat. Drop the bag into a pot of boiling water over a campfire.

Boil for 10-15 minutes and enjoy this almost no-mess camping breakfast idea!

Campfire Donuts

Another breakfast hit I hope my family will enjoy!

This is an easy camping food idea. Use a can of biscuit dough and cut out the centers.

Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet over the fire and fry the dough until golden brown. Make sure to flip them halfway through so they don’t burn.

Once crispy, set them on paper towels to drain and pour a mixture of cinnamon and sugar over them.

Eat them fresh by the fire!

Trail Mix Granola Bars

Another simple campfire recipe. Just mix rolled oats, chopped nuts, dried fruit, chocolate chips and a pinch of salt in a bowl.

In a saucepan over the campfire (or stove), heat honey, peanut butter and a little vanilla until smooth. Pour this over your dry ingredients and press the mixture firmly onto a parchment-lined pan.

Let it cool and slice into bars!

Apple-Spiced Oatmeal

Oatmeal is staple breakfast food and can be for camping. Bring water and milk to a boil in a pot over the campfire.

Once boiling, stir in rolled oats, diced apples, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt. Simmer for 5-7 minutes and stir occasionally until thick.

Top your oatmeal with brown sugar, chopped nuts and some maple syrup.

Delicous!

Monkey Bread

I think of this as a toddler food idea but you know what? I can’t see why you can’t make this at camp for your family!

It’s also easy to make. Take some biscuit dough and tear into pieces, toss them into a mix of cinnamon and sugar and layer them in a greased Dutch oven.

Add some melted butter over the dough and back over hot coals for 30-40 minutes, checking to see if it’s goey.

Serve warm around the fire!

Skillet Breakfast: Potatoes with Peppers & Onions

I often make sausage, potatoes and peppers for dinner, but why not try it for a camping breakfast?

Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet over the campfire. Then toss in some diced potatoes, bell peppers and onions.

Cook until a bit crispy making sure to stir occasionlly (so nothign burns), then season with salt, pepper and paprika.

Once cooked through, serve as side to your eggs or top with eggs!

Skillet Hashbrown with Cheese

Thaw some hashbrowns in a buttered cast-iron skillet. Press them down for a nice crispy base.

Cook over medium heat for 5-7 minutes then flip and sprinkled some shredded cheese. Cook until cheese melts and serve with your eggs!

I spread thawed hashbrowns in a buttered cast-iron skillet and press them down for a crispy base. After cooking over medium heat for 5-7 minutes, I flip them, then sprinkle shredded cheese on top and let it melt. It’s crispy, cheesy, and so good with eggs or bacon!

Breakfast Burritos

For a yummy camping meal, scramble some eggs, sausage or bacon and layer in cheese, salsa and hashbrowns (the rest of them from previous recipe) inside a tortilla.

Wrap in a foil and head over the fire for a few minutes until the cheese melts.

Feel free to prep these ahead of time and freeze them to take to camping.

Breakfast in a Bag

For this version, crack eggs into a freezer bag and toss in cheese, diced veggies and deli ham. Seal the back and drop into boiling water for 10-15 minutes.

When finished, you have a perfect omelet!

Breakfast Quesadillas

For an easy camping food idea, fill some flour tortillas with scrambled eggs, shredded cheese and sausage or bacon.

Fold them in half and cook them in a skillet over medium heat until crispy on both sides.

Once done, slice them up for everyone and serve with salsa.

Sausage Biscuit Roll Ups

If you have leftover biscuit dough try this camping breakfast!

Wrap breakfast sausage links in biscuit dough and then roll them in a little butter and cinnamon sugar.

Cook them in a cast-iron skillet over the fire until they turn golden brown (about 10-15 minutes).

Sweet Potato Hash

For an alternate breakfast, dice up some sweet potatoes, onions, and bell peppers in a cast-iron skillet. Sauté until veggies are tender.

Season with some salt, pepper and a small amount of paprika (or smoked kind). Top with fried eggs and enjoy!

Berry Croissant Breakfast Casserole

For another easy camping breakfast, tear croissants into chunks and toss them in a Dutch oven with fresh berries.

Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and a little sugar to pour over the croissants. Bake over hot coals for 30 minutes and serve with syrup or powdered sugar.

If I can make a standard meal look cool and enticing, my children will eat it. This recipe are in jars and make for an easy to make ahead and travel with.

Mix rolled oats, milk, Greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey and cinnamon in a jar. Stir in fresh or dried fruit and seal it.
